21 Day Fix: My Experience

After we finished spring softball this year with my oldest. I knew something needed to change. I wasn’t able to run around with the kids as much as I wanted. I didn’t have enough energy. Endurance. Nothing.

That’s not how I ever imagined life being when my kids started playing sports. I always envisioned us training and practicing together. No matter what the sport. I’ve always loved being outside and active…the part of me just sort of got lost after I injured my MCL when I was a teenager.

So I started talking to friends and researching and just kind of mulling over  how I wanted to do this. I knew I wanted to lose weight. But I’ve tried that a few times before with not much success.. So HOW would I make this time different? I was trying to decide between Piyo, 21 Day Fix, and The 21 Day Sugar Detox. If I chose a Beachbody program would I become a coach? If so who would I sign up under.

I knew in order to make this time different I needed to put God first. Ask him for help, guidance. etc. After lots of prayer and talking with a few people I decided on 21 Day Fix. So I borrowed it from a friend (thanks girl!!) and decided to save up some money for Shakeology. Eventually I ordered Shakeology and became a coach.

There are a 3 key reasons I decided on this program:

1. It’s 21 days. That’s not a long commitment and I know that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. I figured if I was benefiting from the program and liked it I would just keep going after the 21 days. If not, I hadn’t invested a lot of and I’d move on.

2. It teaches you portion control. Each food category has its own container which is a different color and size from the rest. Portion control is actually my biggest struggle. I like veggies and don’t actually eat that bad, it’s just how MUCH I eat that I have an issue with.

3. It’s simple. 30 minutes of exercise that not only help you lose weight but also help you build muscle and tone. No real food restrictions just learning proper portions for foods. Whether it’s in the a.m. before everyone else is awake, during nap-time, while the kids watch signing time, or whatever. I knew I could find 30 minutes to make my health a priority. I HAD to.

So when I received my Shakeology I officially started the 21 Day Fix. I meal prepped and a few days worth of meals to get me started. To be honest it wasn’t hard for me at all. I was eating A LOT of food to my amazement. I was full, and feeling satisfied, and I wasn’t craving anything really. By the end of the 21 days, I was feeling SO GOOD! I had only missed 2 days of workouts due to pulling a muscle in my abdomen when playing with the kids. For the first time in a LONG time I was working out consistently. I was eating right. I had way more energy than before. I felt stronger, happier, more full of life, accomplished, and proud of myself. NO matter what the scale or measurements said. I had set out to learn how to properly, to create an exercise habit, to put God first, to take care of myself, and I did it. All while breastfeeding a 1-year-old, and chasing after my 3 and 6-year-old. Something that I thought I wouldn’t be able to do.

Before I tell you my results from the 21 Day Fix, I want to tell you something. What you see in the mirror. On the scale. On the tape measure. <~ Those do NOT define you. Yes you may have some work to do to make those numbers different, but what really defines you is WHO YOU ARE. Your FAITH defines you. Your kindness. Your generosity. Your love. Your sacrifice. Your encouragement. Your loyalty. Those are who are you. You are NOT A NUMBER.  Please keep this in mind while reading this. God wants you to be healthy, to take care of yourself, but never does He say you have to be a certain weight or so many inches around your waist. He loves you unconditionally, and that is how you need to love yourself. Your definition of healthy will be different from mine, or anyone else’s. I’m only showing my results because I want you to know it does work and I’m proud of my accomplishments. Even if the numbers were lower I would still feel the same.My results are progress. That’s all I wanted.  And no matter your results (from anything in life) you should be proud of your efforts.

As I’m typing this I am actually on my 2nd round of the 21 Day Fix and it is everything I thought it would be and MORE!
