5 Things To Do Instead Of Stress Eating

This has actually taken me a long time to admit… I don’t like admitting my faults 😉 (does anyone??) But if this journey has taught me one thing it is that I need to own up to things and stop lying to myself if I want to truly change inside and out.

When I get stressed I eat.  Now, I know that this is not the only reason I gained weight but I do know that it is a factor and that it is a contributing factor as to why I haven’t been losing much weight lately. It is REALLY hard for me to keep the correct mindset when I’m stressed but I have found a couple of ways to distract myself and put my focus on something that actually relieves my stress in a beneficial way.

I hope these will help you as well!

1. Pray or Read Your Bible

It’s scientifically proven that praying relieves stress. I tend to pray for strength to resist temptation, for wisdom about whatever I’m stressing about, or just life in general. I also will look up Bible verses on strength or just read some psalms. Shifting my focus on to God really does help.

2. Count Your Blessings

Seriously- sit down and write down as many blessings as you can. Aim for at least 5. I try to start with ones specific to that day. This is a great way to shift your focus to good and happy things which will alleviate your stress and divert your attention from food.

For real. Do a workout! Exercise is a GREAT way to boost your mood and work out some frustration. If you don’t have time for a whole workout or you’ve already done your workout for the day, then take a walk. Getting outdoors for a walk is AH-MAZING for stress relief.

4. Journal

Write down your thoughts. Writing can be so therapeutic. There’s just something about writing it all down and getting it all out instead of keeping it all inside.

5. Meditation

So many people are scared by this word! Meditation is really just quieting your mind and relaxing. Meditation is simple, though it can be tough at first, but so effective! Start learning meditation techniques when you aren’t stressed so it isn’t a frustrating thing when you are trying to do it while stressed.
