My Switch To Safer Beauty

I’m not even sure where to begin with this post. It’s something I’m extremely passionate about so it tends to all just gush out. I don’t want to word vomit all over you though. I just want to educate and inform so you can make the best choices for you and your family. So just bare with me on this post because I’ve been struggling to write lately and writing this post…well, I don’t feel like that.

For as long as I can remember I’ve always been interested in more natural, safer “things”, like beauty and skin care products. But there haven’t been many options or much information on what is safe and what isn’t. I was also really into having an actual beauty routine and I used to love doing my makeup. I never had a huge reason for wanting to use safer products, especially as a teenager, I just did.

Once I became pregnant with my first child I really started learning more about chemicals and what they do to our  bodies but it wasn’t until I was pregnant with my 2nd child that I really became super interested and researching a lot more. In between those 2 pregnancies my Aunt had also been diagnosed with breast cancer and my grandmother passed shortly after my son was born. Then when my son was about 1 year or so old I went through some crazy post weaning anxiety/depression. This REALLY got the gears rolling in my mind and I dove into any resource I could find on health and hormones. Finding out more and more how toxic most of the things we use daily are for us and especially for our children!

I started small and would switch a couple things to safer products as I could. Some products were great and some not so much. The one area I really struggled to find great products was make up and facial skin care items. I’ve never been huge into make up but I do like wearing it and playing around with it often, but I eventually just stopped wearing it as much and because I couldn’t find safer products I loved. I LOVE having a full skin care routine too, it just makes me feel put together in the mornings for some reason.

So as you can see I’ve been on this journey for quite a few years now. I have FINALLY found a beauty product line that I am in love with! Beautycounter is not only creating high preforming products but they actually care about the health of the people that are using their products.

I came across Beautycounter a couple months ago while searching for a safer makeup that would still work great. Beautycounter has a “never list” of toxic ingredients that they will NEVER use in their products. A large part of these ingredients are linked to cancer, adhd, autism, hormone disruption, and so much more.

I don’t say all this to you to scare you, because I know it can be scary and overwhelming to think that we have been using these products daily, sometimes multiple times a day, on ourselves and our kids. I say all this to inform you, to give you an option, to give you knowledge. Because knowledge is power y’all.

I’m not usually one for more government involvement in things BUT I will never understand how people can sit back knowing that these toxic ingredients cause harm to people and do NOTHING. The FDA hasn’t regulated ANYTHING in the cosmetic industry since 1938. Since then there have been over 80,000 new ingredients introduced. Most of these products aren’t even tested at all.

I was a little skeptical at first since I had tried so many different brands and just never really liked them. Then I found out that a friend of mine had just joined as a consultant so I contacted her and tried a few samples. I fell in love. I’ve been using the Essentials skin care like and it is AH-MAZING. So gentle but so effective. I’ve also been using the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer and y’all this stuff is just perfect. It has an SPF 20 in it but it is so light and just brightens up your skin tone a bit. Perfect I tell ya. The Charcoal Cleansing Bar is another favorite product. It draws out impurities in your skin without leaving it dry. You can believe that these products work since celebrity makeup artist, Christy Coleman uses them! (She’s just one of the many celebs that have fallen in love with Beautycounter.) The products are just great, but the company…it’s even better.

Beautycounter is on a mission to get safer beauty products into everyone’s hands. They have a complete transparency policy that tells you every single ingredient in all of their products! They have partnered with some amazing non profits and this month (July 2016) they have partnered with Stand Up To Cancer to spread knowledge and awareness. They are also going to match all donations up to $50,000.00!! This company is doing big things y’all. BIG things.

That’s why I joined them. After learning all of the above I coulnd’t pass up the opportunity to join them on their mission. I mean that’s part of why I have a blog, to spread knowledge. Becoming a consultant was an amazing decision, it has been so much fun! If you would like to learn more about Beautycounter and it’s products I’d love for you to join my group on Facebook, you can also take a look around my website here, or email me at sunflowersonthehill (@) gmail (.) com , or you can always comment below. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have!
