10 Homeschool Hacks Every Mom Should Know

Homeschooling is a calling and a privilege—but let’s be honest, some days feel like a whirlwind of laundry, lesson plans, and snack breaks on repeat. If you’ve ever felt like you’re barely staying afloat, you’re not alone. I’ve gathered ten of my favorite homeschool hacks that have helped bring a little more peace and a lot more productivity to our days.

1. Use the “Loop Schedule”

Instead of stressing over what subject to skip when life happens, use a loop schedule. List your rotating subjects (like science, history, art), and just pick up where you left off each day. No guilt. No backlog.

2. Batch Prep Materials Once a Week

Choose one evening or afternoon a week to prep materials, print worksheets, and load up your morning baskets. A little prep goes a long way in cutting the chaos.

3. Make Mornings Sacred

Create a simple morning rhythm: breakfast, Bible, and snuggles. Start the day with God’s Word and connection before diving into academics.

4. Create Independent Work Bins for Each Child

Fill a bin with age-appropriate, independent activities they can do without your help: puzzles, readers, copywork, etc. If you’re kids are older, you can have some, if not all, of their core subjects in this! Perfect for when you need to help another child or take a phone call.

5. Use Audiobooks to Reclaim Time

In the car, during lunch, or even bedtime—let audiobooks work for you. They’re great for history, literature, and Bible memory. Mystery of History and Gather Round both offer mp3’s with some of their curriculum!

6. Make the Most of One Subject

Find ways to teach multiple kids at once. For example, do Bible, read-alouds, science experiments, history and geography, and nature study as a family, then let kids complete work at their own level.

7. Theme Your Days

Motivation Monday, Tidy Tuesday, Wild Wednesday (nature day), Thankful Thursday, Fun Friday. Adding a simple theme makes the week feel fresh and fun.

8. Re-use Curriculum Across Ages

Don’t be afraid to cycle back and use curriculum again with younger children. You’re saving time, money, and brain power.

9. Celebrate Small Wins

Finished a tough book? Everyone did math without crying? Celebrate it. Add fun stickers to a “family progress board” or plan a Friday treat, playground day, or movie morning!

10. Pray First, Teach Second

The real success of homeschool isn’t in test scores but in transformed hearts. Start your day by praying over your homeschool, your children, and your own weary spirit. When we invite the Lord into our lesson plans, peace and purpose follow.
Need a little help getting started? I’ve created a Homeschool Mom Prayer Journal Printable to guide and encourage you—grab yours here and start covering your days in prayer.

You don’t need to do it all—just what God has asked you to do. Choose one or two of these hacks to try this week and give yourself grace as you grow.
